A Native American story, Thunder Horse, describes how the Thunder Horse would descend from the sky to the mountain tops. The thunder and lightning was caused by the tramping of the horses' hooves. Rain would accompany the thunder and lightning then the rain would cause the crops and grass and trees to grow and be happy.
The artist of Thunder Horse, Barbara Brown, used to tell the story of Thunder Horse to her grandson when he was scared of thunderstorms. After hearing the story, when he heard thunder he would smile and say, 'Grandma, there's the Thunder Horse.' Today she dedicates this Painted Pony to her grandson.
