From the Trail of Painted Ponies: "Petroglyph"

A 2009 Painted Ponies depicts ancient Indian cave drawings. The inspiration for this Painted Pony occurred when the artist hiked to a remote canyon in the Southwest. She was impressed by the thoughtful use prehistoric “cave painters” made of rough rock walls, turning them into textured and sculptural canvases on which they carved images of horses.

With Petroglyph she created a Painted Pony that captured not only the spirit, but the look of these ancient equine petroglyphs. The russet colors represent the soil. There are also various Indian symbols included in the design.
