This Painted Pony is part of The Tribal Collection which honors authentic Native American arts and heritage.
This Painted pony honors the Potawatomi Indians which were a peaceful tribe known as the "Fire Nation." Before the arrival of Europeans, Potawatomi Indians maintained the Council Fire once shared by other tribes living on the shores of the Great Lakes. Relying on canoes, they fished, gathered rice, hunted deer and were known for their elaborate flower and scroll designs on mat and basket weavings. Their history took a tragic turn with their forced relocation to the Indian Territories in Kansas and Oklahoma in 1838.
The Painted Pony, Keeper of the Sacred Fire, is a powerful and moving tribute to the enduring spirit of the Potawatomi. This pony was created by Cheryl Harris, the artist, who grew up along what came to be known as a Trail of Tears.
The pony is a deep red-orange color with black mane and tail. It has a design with lighter orange and blue colors. Does the pony make you think of fire? It's supposed to. The design is meant to be flames. It has a powerful feel - doesn't it? Made of resin. Dimensions: 7"
