Both the Native American and his horse appear to have reached the end of a long journey or a spirited hunt.

Looking exhausted with drooped heads, both the Indian and his pony's head are lowered towards the textured rock and grass trail below, eyes closed.

The Indian holds the painted wooden shaft of a long spear with his hand, as the spear's arrowhead points down to the ground paralleling the contour of the horses neck. The sculptor adorned the spear and the Indian's arms and black braided hair with white and black feathers. These feathers match the white and black coat of the tired horse.

The Native American's bare legs straddle a saddle which looks like leather, and his moccasins covered feet hang to both sides of the horse. The moccasins are tan, red and blue, and a matching string of turquois beads sits motionless around the man's neck. A tan bedroll is attached to the rear of the saddle.
